Note: The utilization of Fee Basis appointments is centered on the service needs rather than a specified tour of duty. The Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks is seeking a Fee Basis Physician in the Emergency Department. The candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive patient histories, examinations, diagnoses, and treatments of medical condition.
This is an open continuous announcement that will remain open until filled. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Eligible applicants will be referred each week for consideration until a selection is made. Fee Basis Emergency Department (ED) must be qualified to diagnose, treat, stabilize, and manage patients according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods, and techniques.
Duties to be performed include, but are not limited to: 1) Perform assessments/examinations on encounters with all presenting patients 2) Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests necessary to complete the ED evaluation 3) Provide attending physician oversight to residents, mid-level providers, and students 4) Stabilize all critically ill or injured patients 5) Admit patients to the hospital or discharge them from the ED with appropriate follow-up 6) Discuss treatment plans with patient and/or family/caregiver 7) Perform medication reconciliation with all discharged patients 8) Participate in Quality Assurance, chart reviews, and support applicable ED performance measures 9) Coordinate patient care with consultants as deemed appropriate 10) ED physician will support the safety, occupational health and fire protection programs by the application of approved standards, regulations, practices and work methods Pay: Based on approved pay rates per task or service.
Fee basis annual salary limitation is $200,000 in a calendar year. Rates will be determined based on Medicare fee schedule. Rates can range from $2,400.00 per procedure to $3,600.00 per procedure. Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: There is no set work schedule.
Services are rendered as needed and agreed with the facility.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
