VA NWIHCS is an integrated system that serves more than 56,000 Veterans in 99 counties in Nebraska, western Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. In this role, you will provide comprehensive surgical care in a collaborative, patient-centered environment. As a valued member of our multidisciplinary team, you'll deliver high-quality surgical services, contribute to process improvements, and help ensure the best possible outcomes for those who have served our country. We are seeking a compassionate, skilled surgeon committed to excellence in patient care, and a strong sense of service to our Veteran population.
Duties include but are not limited to the following: Evaluate patients in the outpatient, inpatient, emergency and perioperative settings. Perform operative and bedside procedures within granted privileges. Provide perioperative management and follow-up care. Determine surgical indications and appropriate treatment plans. Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and medications. Coordinate multidisciplinary patient care.
Supervise and collaborate with residents, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing staff, and ancillary personnel. Maintain timely, accurate, and complete medical record documentation within CPRS/Cerner in accordance with VHA policy. Participate in surgical call coverage as assigned. Practice within approved privileges at all times unless necessitated by emergency circumstances. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:00am - 4:30pm
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
