Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

The Veterans Health Care Systems of the Ozarks is recruiting for a full-time Gynecologist.. Fayetteville is nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, and is an outdoor paradise with hiking, golf, fishing, rafting, boating, and four distinct seasons. Fayetteville is the home of the University of Arkansas "Razorbacks" which provides the community with a college atmosphere. In the neighboring community of Bentonville, Crystal Bridges Museum has been labeled as one the top 10 must see places in America. Fayetteville has outstanding public schools, excellent parks and trail system and is ranked as 4th "best college sports town" and 8th for business and careers by Forbes Magazine. Clinical management and organization of Gynecologic assessment and preparation of patients for surgery. Initial evaluation and overall workup, H&P, and admission of GYN surgery patients. Informs veterans to the risks as well as benefits of upcoming surgical procedures. Performs gynecology procedures. Enter notes electronically in a paperless medical record system. Provision of appropriate post-operative care.

Management of patients in the emergency department, inpatient units, medical imaging departments, and ICU. Provides occasional consultative services to other service providers for inpatients and outpatients. Works effectively with patients and coworkers. Treats Veterans, Veteran's Family Members, and other healthcare professionals with respect and dignity. Supervision of Advanced Practice Nurses, Physician Assistants (mid-levels) and other staff as required.

Participation in peer review and quality improvement activities is required to ensure quality of patient care consistent with VA regulations and Joint Commission standards. Member of several standing committees including but not limited to Surgical Service Morbidity and Mortality Committee. Understands and abides by the Medical Bylaws of this facility. Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Chief of Surgery.

It is estimated that the general surgeon's position will be approximately 70% clinical and 30% administrative. Supports Women's health program. Provides education regarding Women's Health to Primary care providers. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Requirements & Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.

Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.

NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.

The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
