This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Hematology and Oncology Specifications:- Responsible for providing consultation in Hematology and Oncology, both for diagnosis and treatment in the inpatient and outpatient settings.- Provide clinical assessment and evaluations of Inpatients and Outpatients with hematologic and oncologic needs.- Health care management of assigned veteran patients with acute and chronic illnesses.- Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies.- Ordering consultation and referrals - Inpatients and Outpatients.- Patient follow-up, as appropriate.- Health promotion and disease prevention.
Patient, family, and staff education and counseling.- Be aware of clinical research and trials available for Veterans. Functions: Administrative: a) Serves as acting chief of the section (if appropriate), as needed. b) Provides guidance and support to the advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician assistants) assigned to Medicine Service in their respective areas of expertise.
c) Provides guidance, teaching, and supervision for the medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to Medicine Service/subspecialty services and clinics according to the standards outlined in Center Policy Memorandum, 11-4, «supervision of Postgraduate Residents when assigned to do so by the Chief, Medicine Service.
d) Participates in and attends medical center committees and/or teams as assigned by the Chief Medicine Service and in his/her absence. e) Participates in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, as assigned by Chief, Medicine Service.
f) Demonstrates commitment to high quality customer service, including specific measures identified as performance goals by the Medical Center. g) Adheres to all information security and privacy measures set by VHA and the Medical Center. h) Annually develops and evaluates professional and personal goals.
i) Identifies individual professional learning needs and participates in formal programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, as well as self-directed learning activities, completes facility wide mandatory education yearly j). A physician, who is a supervisor, approves and disapproves leave for other staff physicians, technical and nursing personnel, and/or clerical personnel under his/her supervision.
k) A physician, who is a supervisor, participates in the selection of new staff; prepares for promotions and recognition of outstanding performance of staff he/she supervises .l) A physician, who is a supervisor, revises work schedules and assignments on short notice to meet frequent, abrupt, and unpredictable changes in prescribed workloads and deadlines.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
