This position offers a meaningful blend of clinical care, teaching, and the opportunity to shape the future of oncology services for Veterans in Alabama. Position Highlights Serve as a core faculty member for the UAB Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, with active involvement in teaching and supervising fellows.
Provide high quality patient care, including: Oversight of the infusion center during clinical sessions Participation in the inpatient consult service alongside fellows Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration through the Cancer Committee and tumor boards. Contribute to institutional initiatives such as quality improvement projects and committee service. Participate in an equitable on call consultation, with after hours and weekend rounding being very uncommon.
Must be board certified/eligible in oncology and/or hematology Research & Program Development The ideal candidate will be excited by the opportunity to help build a new clinical trials program within the Birmingham VA. The oncology section currently has no active clinical trials-establishing this program is a major strategic priority.
Extensive support is available through our VA Research Service, offering a strong foundation for candidates who wish to pursue clinical research or program development. Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Subject to change based on agency needs.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
