This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. The physician is responsible for the overall medical care and clinical practice for the HBPC Program. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations including assignments, ensuring coverage and working collaboratively with several other service lines to accomplish the mission.
The incumbent ensures the quality and timeliness of care provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with standards of accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission (TJC) and the Office of Inspector General (OIG). The physician amends team meetings and makes home visits (Government vehicles with GPS and gas cards will be provided).
The physician refills/renews medications and takes care of inter current medical problems of home bound HBPC patients, by phone or by visiting in person and ordering medications. The HBPC Medical Director is responsible for the overall medical care delivered to homebound patients in the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center service area to include Tifton Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and Milledgeville CBOC.
Medical care includes identifying the patient's medical problems, diagnosing and treating appropriately, determining the need for consultation from subspecialty care for specialized medical, surgical or psychiatric services and determining the need for services that may require transferring patients to other VA on Non-VA healthcare facilities, community nursing homes or discharge when appropriate.
The appointed physician very rarely may be detailed to cover CLC inpatient units in case of physician shortage emergencies. The appointed physician will work as a team with nurses, social workers, nutritionists, psychologists, etc. within the HBPC team. Also, the appointed physician should be willing to teach medical students, interns, and Residents, Fellows and Physician Assistant (PA) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) students.
The appointed physician will actively participate in an interdisciplinary environment that includes nurses, social workers, dietitians/nutritionists, psychologists, etc. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM, (subject to change based on agency needs)
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
