The Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System (ICVAHCS) is seeking a Full-Time, Physician - Hospitalist to join the Specialty Care Service Line at the VAMC in Iowa City, Iowa. Dual appointment: This is a dual appointment with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The incumbent is expected to work at the Iowa City VA HCS for 5/8ths and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 3/8ths.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to: This position is General internal Medicine and accountable to the Chief of Inpatient (Hospitalist) Service and ultimately to the Chief of Medicine. The incumbent will have knowledge of clinical delivery structures, electronic medical records, and experience in clinical management and administrative matters.
The incumbent will perform a variety of complex clinical and administrative tasks including but is not limited to, TMS training/yearly clinical competencies, patient education and guidance, timely and precise documentation, process workflow and other functionality regarding necessary clinical systems.
The incumbent will work to optimize the usage of clinical systems through education and training, quality outcomes, and providing support in accordance with organizational goals. The incumbent will have proven communication skills (written and verbal), team-building skills, and demonstrated ability to promote morale and teamwork. The incumbent will have a general knowledge of military and civilian personnel management procedures of VA performance appraisals.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
