The VA Rocky Mountain Network (VISN 19) offers a balance of professional and clinical complexity that stimulates growth yet also allows the professional an opportunity to enjoy life outside of work Incumbent will be a member of the Medical Service and will participate in patient care, teaching and administrative activities as assigned.
They will function as an independent physician provider, and they will provide medical care in the spectrum of their field of training and privileging and in all aspects of patient care including inpatient/outpatient care. The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: (1) Providing leadership and administrative support to the Infectious Diseases Section in the role of Section Chief.
This broad set of responsibilities includes ensuring that the clinical, educational, and research missions of the ID Section and its faculty and staff are successfully met. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the Chief of Medicine to anticipate staffing changes and opportunities to best ensure smooth clinical operations. The incumbent will work collaboratively with and supervise the Infection Prevention and Control Program at RMR VAMC.
(2) Continue and further the development of the clinical programs. - Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing evaluation and treatment for patients seen in the outpatient clinic, inpatient services, and hemodialysis unit as assigned. (3) Providing patient care in the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System. Incumbent will attend in the outpatient clinic and the inpatient service and other clinical services needed by the Service.
These clinical responsibilities may include patient care activities with or without trainees. (4) Supervise and teach medical students, interns and residents, and fellows. Participate in the educational activities of the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. (5) Participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and other administrative duties as assigned, including Section meetings. (6) Other duties as assigned by the Service Chief.
(7) Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in all clinical settings. (8) Evaluate and triage specialty consults. (9) Obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, recommend, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients.
The incumbent will coordinate medical management and care within their discipline with Primary Care providers and other Medical/Surgical services and personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system. (10) Provide on-call services as assigned, usually as part of a rotation with other section physicians. (11) Participate in monitoring the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level.
(12) Incumbent will perform administrative tasks as assigned, including, but not limited to peer reviews, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief of Medicine/Chief of Staff/ELT. (13) Participate in the educational programs for section personnel as well as the medical staff.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
OR Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. OR For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
