The Interventional Radiologist shall provide Board Certified Interventional Radiologist Services. The IR Physician shall provide interventional radiology services to include consultations, diagnostic imaging, therapeutic procedures, patient management, and follow-up care. This physician will be responsible for providing interpretation and submission of radiology reports as required by the VA, for both the outpatient and inpatient settings at the Minneapolis VAHCS.
The IR physician is knowledgeable in universal precautions, certified in ACLS, aseptic techniques, procedures related to radiography and ionizing radiation, Time Out/safety procedures, and is able to identify factors that may contraindicate an imaging procedure. The incumbent will perform duties that include, but are not limited to: - Performance and interpretation of image-guided vascular and non-vascular diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures.
- Performance of moderate sedation as needed for imaging procedures. - Prescription & administration of contrast materials; and management and treatment of contrast reactions. - Interpret CT, CTA, US, MR, MRA, plain films, and fluoroscopic procedures. - Participate in Quality Management activities such as film quality review, clerical checks, peer review and other activities as required - Participates in assigned conferences, such as Vascular and tumor boards.
- Participates and stays current in continuing education as required to maintain credentials. - Use the electronic medical record and the electronic protocoling application as needed. - Call coverage. - Supervise trainees (students, residents, fellows) - Other duties as assigned by the Chief VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
