Job Summary

GEC provides access to specialty Geriatrics and team-based care through multiple programs and collaborations within and throughout the health care system. Principle GEC programs include Home Based Primary Care (HBPC), Geriatrics Clinics (GeriPACT), and Palliative Care. HBPC is the largest program with five clinical teams performing home visits to over 400 home-bound veterans.

The Medical Director will: Understand, manage, and report data related to/from HBPC (local and national) Provide supervision of nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and trainees performing direct patient care.

Serve as a member of the GEC Leaders Group (meeting monthly and ad hoc) Work closely with HBPC Program Coordinator, HBPC Nurse Manager, and HBPC Program Support Assistants on overall program management and response to changes and monitoring Serve as Chair of HBPC Steering Committee and HBPC Monthly meetings Lead and assist with HBPC program development including strategic planning, program leadership, quality improvement, quality assurance, continuous survey readiness, and committee/work groups in collaboration with others Understand, manage, and assist with review and revision of HBPC Policy to ensure compliance with VHA guidance Assist with response and management of Action Items related to HBPC Assist with response and management of emergencies as it relates to HBPC Supervise and evaluate all HBPC clinical providers in and serve as one local point of contact and subject matter expert as it relates to home and community based care services for Veterans Maintain licensures and certifications requisite for credentials and privileges at the Columbus VA at all times Meet ethical and professional standards as written in the Medical Staff Bylaws and ensure that work relations are in compliance with facility standards and expectations as written and communicated Other duties or cross-coverage as assigned by the GEC Chief including coverage of GEC clinics and GEC Chief if and when the Chief is unavailable.

Work Schedule: Monday through Frida; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Requirements & Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.

Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.

NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.

The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
