Job Summary

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 31, 2026.Qualified applicants will be considered and referred as vacancies become available.

Key Responsibilities

The physician will serve as a Nuclear Medicine Radiologist for the Diagnostic Imaging Service at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VAMC (CMCVAMC) in Philadelphia, PA. He/she will specialize in the use of radioactive materials (radiopharmaceuticals) to diagnose and treat various diseases. This physician will interpret imaging studies as Position Emission Tomography (PET), PET/CT, and other nuclear medicine procedures.

In addition to diagnostic imaging, the nuclear medicine physician may also provide targeted radionuclide therapies to treat certain cancers and other medical conditions. Duties include, but not limited to: Reviews information from the electronic chart. Provides a comprehensive report of imaging examinations. Interpret nuclear medicine imaging studies, including PET, PET/CT, cardiac scans, thyroid scans, renal scans and others.

Communicate results and diagnostic impressions to referring providers in a timely and clear manner. Assess patients for suitability using radiopharmaceuticals Ensures patient privacy and confidentiality of patient medical information Supervises and trains medical students, residents and other learners. Involvement in quality management and patient safety involving Nuclear Medicine Imaging.

Requirements & Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.

Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.

NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.

The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
