This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Will carry an appropriate clinical workload, take part in continuing medical education (as defined by licensure), and will be involved with quality assurance and performance improvement activities. As a physiatrist you will provide clinical coverage in clinics such as general Rehab outpatient rehab, electromyography (EMG) lab, spinal cord injury, polytrauma, rehab amputee clinic, and other clinics as delegated. Routinely perform outpatient musculoskeletal and neuromuscular exams to diagnose and treat, to emphasize function, rehabilitation, pain management and injury prevention along with patient wellness. Prescribe therapeutic interventions, works with the rehab therapists, as well as other health care providers as needed to establish a comprehensive and integrated rehabilitation program for the Veteran. Safely performs and designs electrodiagnostic studies including electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies, with accurate interpretation, diagnosis, and documentation. Competent in performing routine joint and trigger point injections. Collaborate with and oversee multidisciplinary team and mid-level providers in the management of patients in Spinal cord injury/disease clinic. Complete consultations, notes and reports in a timely manner and the results are made readily available to the referring practitioners. May be required to provide coverage at prosthetic clinic with prosthetic and orthotic evaluation and treatment. Promote and assist with telehealth practice and activities. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
