Performs outpatient musculoskeletal and neuromuscular examinations, determines diagnoses, and initiates treatments that emphasize restoration of function for both male and female veterans. Patient populations requiring comprehensive rehabilitation programs include those with musculoskeletal and neuromuscular impairments, amputations, spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and those with chronic severe disabling pain syndromes. 2.
Works with a team of health care providers to establish a comprehensive rehabilitation program. 3. Executes clinical and non-clinical assignments efficiently, providing timely and courteous services to all veterans seeking rehabilitative care, making clinical notes readily available to the referring practitioners. 4. Orders diagnostic tests, medications, laboratory tests as medically relevant for each patient and makes referrals to other appropriate specialists 5.
Provides timely follow-up on results and patient inquiries, including and not limited to completion of view alerts, secure messages and other patient communications. 6. Prescribes medications according to approved formulary, and in accordance with Federal and State Law. 7. Performs office-based procedures such as trigger point, intraarticular, intrasheath, and peripheral joint injections, botulinum toxin injections, baclofen pump refills and EMG/NCS. 8.
Educates patients concerning medical conditions and recommended treatments. 9. Consults other specialties as appropriate, according to service agreements. 10. Completes other duties as assigned by the Section Chief of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:00pm (Subject to change based on agency needs.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
