We're seeking a skilled Physician in Primary Care for our Emporia VA Clinic in Emporia, Virginia. The incumbent of this position provides integrated outpatient, accessible health care services with their health care teams who are accountable for addressing a large majority of personal health care needs, developing a sustained partnership with patients, and practicing in the context of family and community.
The care is person-centered, team-based, community-aligned, and designed to achieve better health, better care, and lower costs. The incumbent is specifically trained to provide comprehensive primary care services through residency or fellowship training in acute and chronic care settings. The Emporia VA Clinic is one of four community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) a part of the Richmond VA Medical Center, located in Richmond, Virginia.

Conduct thorough examinations, develop differential diagnosis, and design treatment plans. Order and interpret laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic tests. Provide counseling and education to patients on health conditions, wellness, and preventive health measures. Manage chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. Coordinate care with specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records using the designated electronic health record (EHR) system. Work Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday - Friday
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
