In addition, provider can perform routine women's health (pelvic exam, breast exam, cytologic pap smear testing, cervical HPV testing), laceration repair, foreign body removal, abscess incision and drainage, and wound debridement. He/she can care for patients via telemedicine, perform preliminary interpretation of ECG and radiographic studies, and supervise residents, fellows, and others in training.
Additional Professional Opportunities for qualified applicants: A portion of the position may be assigned to the Obesity Medicine Clinic for clinicians who meet service needs and relevant qualifications and based on the needs of the Obesity and Primary care clinics.
Duties in this area include evaluation and management of patients with obesity and related metabolic conditions, close collaboration with interdisciplinary team members, and adherence to evidence based clinic protocols and treatment pathways.
The position may also include dedicated time serving as a Stanford Medical Resident preceptor in the resident primary care continuity clinic, offering clinical supervision, teaching, and mentorship to resident physicians in the ambulatory care setting. Assignment of precepting time is dependent on experience, clinic needs, and alignment with program requirements.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
