The VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) seeks a board-certified or board-eligible neurologist with subspecialty expertise in Headache Medicine to serve as Director of the Headache Center of Excellence (HCoE). The Director will guide clinical operations, education, quality improvement, research engagement, and multidisciplinary team development across VAMHCS and VISN 5.

Major duties include but are not limited to: Clinical Duties Provide expert evaluation and management of complex headache disorders. Deliver care through face-to-face encounters, telehealth, virtual modalities, and specialty consultations. Implement evidence-based headache protocols and emerging FDA-approved therapies.
Program Leadership Direct all activities of the Headache Center of Excellence at VAMHCS. Coordinate with national HCoE leadership, VISN 5, DoD partners, and VACO program offices. Develop and maintain performance dashboards, quality metrics, and reporting mechanisms. Ensure compliance with HCoE requirements for designation and continuation of SP funding. Education and Training Provide mentorship to residents, fellows, nurse practitioners, and interdisciplinary staff.
Lead continuing education on novel headache therapeutics and best practices. Administrative Responsibilities Oversee program staffing, scheduling, referral pathways, and operational growth. Collaborate with Neurology Service leadership on strategic planning, workforce needs, and budget priorities. Participate in committees relevant to pain management, telehealth expansion, quality improvement, and service operations.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
