Job Summary

You will serve as a PIPEFITTER (NUCLEAR) in the Nuclear Production Department at the NUCLEAR REGIONAL MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT GUAM, DETACHMENT GUAM of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. Typical work includes fabrication/preparation/disposition of test equipment to support submarine preventive maintenance items and installation/maintenance/removal of freeze seals.

Key Responsibilities

You will remove, install, align, repair, and test a variety of submarine and surface craft piping and components.

This position does not have the education requirement. Additional Information: Frequently handle objects weighing up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) and occasionally carry objects weighing up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) for considerable distances. They are required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bond, and work in cramped positions over and under shipboard components and piping of all types for sustained periods of time.

Work involves ascending and descending narrow vertical ladders or staging, often while carrying tools and equipment. Performs work indoors, outdoors and shipboard exposing them to the prevailing weather conditions, noise, and intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces. Frequently, work is performed in cramped areas, close confined spaces of ships and submarines with minimum lighting and ventilation and in areas with high temperatures such as often exist within a ship.

Some work is performed on or near nuclear reactor systems. They are regularly exposed to moving objects, elevations, sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. They are also exposed to the possibility of an electric shock when working on wet surfaces and of serious injury from slipping and falling while working on masts, in the dry dock, and from ladders and staging.

Eligible FWS employees recruited from outside of the insular area may be eligible for a Pay Differential of 20% of their basic pay. Percentages of differentials are subject to change without notice. Additional vacancies may be filled by this announcement.
