Job Summary

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Engineer, Construction Division, Construction Execution Branch. The selected individual for this position will perform journey level plastering work and must have a thorough knowledge of plastering trade practices and must be skilled in applying work methods and techniques.

Key Responsibilities

***Please Note: This position is temporary in nature and is not to exceed 13 Months. This is strictly a temporary appointment where there is no permanent need or permanent funding available for the work involved and that the temporary appointment is limited in duration. The duration of this temporary appointment may be shorter or longer, depending on the duration of the work or project.

The temporary position may also be terminated at any time due to lack of work and/or lack of funds without any advance notice. As a non-permanent employee, you may also be separated for failure to meet management's expectations, with no advance notice. Tour of Duty: Night (7:00pm - 5:30am Monday - Thursday.

Hours May Change Due to Operational Needs of Management Duties and Responsibilities include the following: PLASTERING MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR Assists in maintaining, repairing and constructing plaster surfaces in historically significant buildings. Maintains, repairs and constructs a variety of simple structures and surfaces. Properly prepares subsurface to ensure an even surface when constructing or repairing walls.

Removes damaged portions of walls, partitions or other similar structures in preparation for repair. Mixes plaster ensuring that the proper proportions of water and plaster are used to obtain desired consistency. Cleans up the job site by sanding, rubbing and washing surfaces. Removes scaffolds and temporary covers. Moves equipment and surplus materials from the job site.

Responsible for mixing, applying and finishing plaster surfaces in the construction and repair of interior walls and ceilings as well as exterior stucco walls. Performs new plastering on all types of backgrounds such as metal, wood or gypsum lath, wallboard and masonry surfaces, as well as repair and patching of plaster and stucco surfaces. Works from oral instructions, blueprints, work orders and rough sketches.

Plans and lays out work to be accomplished, selects the proper tools and material and accomplishes the job in accordance with accepted trade practices. Based on duties assigned, employees may require knowledge of hazardous material (e.g. lead paint and solvents), universal (e.g. lamps and batteries and/or non-hazardous (e.g. oil and polychlorinated biphenyl) waste management requirements to ensure compliance with environmental regulations in performance of duties (e.g.

decide hazardous material is no longer needed and will be disposed, select containers for waste accumulation, add waste to containers, label containers, move waste to and from waste accumulation sites, manage waste accumulation sites, provide waste management guidance/answer questions concerning waste management.

Responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized.
