This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) journeyman mechanic that troubleshoots, tests, repairs, modifies, overhauls, services, and dispatches powered ground support equipment and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: DUTY 1: Performs preventive maintenance on ground power support systems. Checks equipment for fuel, lubricants, coolant, and battery water levels.
Checks pumps, batteries, fan belts, and spark plugs for wear and tear or replacement. Checks engine performance, generator bearings, and oil and temperature gauges. Changes fuel filters, oil filters, air filters, and lube oil. Adjusts thermal and safety controls. Checks steering, wheels, castors, and tires for serviceability. Services systems in accordance with technical data and local procedures, as required.
DUTY 2: Performs major maintenance on ground support equipment such as power sources, major components, support components, and associated components. Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, modifies, and overhauls equipment and components, as required. Analyzes and interprets technical orders, blueprints, wiring schematics, technical manuals, and manufacturer's manuals. Maintenance is performed using a variety of special tools, precision measuring instruments, and common tools.
All maintenance procedures must comply with appropriate technical manuals and approved local procedure and be performed with prescribed time limits. DUTY 3: Performs periodic routine and special inspections of all scheduled equipment. Maintains records and documents actions. DUTY 4: Utilizes safety practices and procedures and complies with following established security and safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Follows federal and state rules when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards. Performs clean-up duties such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in the assigned area. DUTY 5: Maintains and controls tools. Cleans work area and equipment. Dispatches support equipment.
