The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical/License Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) working on a Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Unit (PTSD-RRTP, PRRTP-Domiciliary or SARRTP) with a broad-based clinical knowledge enabling him/her to effectively implement health promotion, prevention, and recovery-based programming for adult residents throughout the residential continuum of care.
The LPN functions under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) who is responsible for the coordination of the patient's care. LPNs at are expected to perform all duties within the scope of their license including direct patient nursing care, medication administration and patient education; however, completed work may require routine or detailed review by the RN depending upon the complexity of the duties involved.
The LPN/LVN will implement appropriate nursing actions based upon the plan of care and his/her observations of the patient's condition and documents patient response. The LPN/LVN serves as a member of the health care team in the Medicine unit. The LPN/LVN recognizes the need for and seeks guidance when necessary to ensure quality patient care. In organizing and delivering care, the LPN/LVN recognizes and considers emotional, cultural, spiritual, and age-related factors.
He/she will demonstrate increasing levels of responsibility as he/she actively progresses up the career ladder. Will provide coverage to ABHICU, Mental Health Clinics and PIC' s units if necessary.
