Job Summary

The Dayton VAMC is looking for a Primary Care LPN. The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical/License Vocational Nurse is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran.

The LPN/LVN also performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran.

Key Responsibilities

VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse: https://youtube.com/embed/Ae85IP1Oiz4 Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs assigned technical procedures; e.g., weights, blood pressures, pulse, temperatures, and the like. Prepares and administers medications, as outlined in policy and procedure manuals. Assists with diagnostic or therapeutic procedures done in the clinic.

Completes ALL clinical reminders assigned to LPNs during pre-visit check-in with Veteran and alerts PCP to any abnormal findings. Participates in the admission, transfer, or discharge of the patient.

Provides for continuity of care in instructing patients about equipment, laboratory needs, and/or procedures to be performed prior to the next visit, and explains to patients and their families/significant others medication instructions and how medicine can affect disease processes. Provides instructions on physical limitations or enhancements of physical activity to promote better outcomes for the patient.

Instructs patients on procedures to be performed; e.g., CT scans, Doppler study, ultrasound, etc. Checks the AED, glucometer, and reports any problems. Monitors medication refrigerator temperature, reports when out of range. Contributes to PACT huddles and interdisciplinary care team meetings/conferences. Contributes subjective and objective data to the nursing care regime. Notifies supervisory staff nurse and/or supervisor of any problems or changes in patient condition.

Notifies Lead RN/Nurse Manager when there are large spills, linens needed, etc., and informs EMS supervisor. Maintains current BLS certification and initiates and performs CPR when indicated. All other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 0800-1630 Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not available.
