Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), GS3, provides direct and indirect care to assigned patients while under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Technically proficient in initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.

VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse: https://youtube.com/embed/Ae85IP1Oiz4 Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Major duties include, but are not limited to: Assists in minor procedures across various specialties by preparing patients; participating in the time-out procedure; ensuring the availability of supplies and equipment and placing order when/if needed. Managing the collection, labeling, and handling of specimens; and overseeing the pre-cleaning and transportation of reusable medical instruments when necessary. Assists Providers with injections, wound care, joint injections/aspirations, minor dermatology and rheumatology procedures, as well as endocrine device downloads. Observes, reports, and records patient status including physical condition, emotional response, skin condition, variations in vital signs, and personal habits and notes patient responses to illness and treatment, documenting all findings appropriately. Provides care in specialty nursing clinics, including injections, immunizations, dressing changes, suture removal, application of Zio patches, EKGs, patient reminders, and patient teaching and education with appropriate documentation of all care provided. Contributes to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care to support the patient's return to optimal functioning, in collaboration with RNs and Providers. Recognizes the need for and initiates emergency measures when indicated; promptly seeks assistance from the RN or MD/DO; and assists in resuscitation procedures during cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest. Assists with the proper storage and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Works closely with Providers, Logistics, Prosthetics, Pharmacy, and other team members to ensure adequate availability of supplies for patient care. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday.
