Job Summary

The Program Specialist position is located in the Veterans Benefits Administration, Boston Regional Office, in the Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) Division. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with technical management of the VR&E caseload, providing assistance to Veteran clients, scheduling of orientations, timekeeping, IT coordination functions, management of IRIS inquiries, VR&E corporate mailbox(es), IPPS, e-VA , and the centralized mail portals.

Major Duties

Specific duties include: Analyzes and prepares program status reports for review at all levels. Responsible for internal controls and Division System Analysis of Operation (SAO) reports. Plans and/or accomplishes special projects. Performs a variety of duties related to special projects involving program issues that contain complicating elements. Maintains diaries, collects data, and prepares recurring reports for VR&E internal controls, and other SAO reports (group orientation appointments, national STAR reviews, local QA, receipt of contractor reports, and division overtime funds). Communicates internally and externally with the full range of agency stakeholders. Evaluates, processes, or makes recommendations for effective organizational changes. Performs organizational analysis for changes in the functional areas of division. Incumbent is responsible for serving as Division Timekeeper. Incumbent ensures that all leave is appropriately entered into the VATAS system. Leave such as FMLA is tracked appropriately and all timecards are certified to schedule. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. The grade progression for this position is GS-07, GS-09. Work Schedule: Full time, Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm Compressed/Flexible: Not Available. Telework: This position is eligible for situational (ad hoc) telework only. The selectee is required to report to the official duty station each scheduled workday. Telework may be approved only on a case-by-case basis with supervisory approval. Routine or recurring telework is not authorized for this position. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
