Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), GS-7 performs more complex nursing assignments within their setting. He/she possesses comprehensive practical nursing knowledge and skills in specialized procedures and practices. The work is of considerable difficulty and responsibility is performed under general supervision. **This position is a Licensed Practical Nurse (Psychiatric) for the Opioid Agonist Treatment Program.

Key Responsibilities

This is a position that is essential to the delivery of direct patient care within the unit. The responsibilities assigned to this position directly support frontline clinical operations, ensure safe staffing levels, and maintain compliance with established care standards. In addition to providing hands on clinical care, this role also supports coordination of patient services, rapid response to patient needs.

Duties may include but are not limited to: Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability to promptly recognize and effectively intervene in potentially urgent or emergent situations. Demonstrates the ability to independently adjust or modify care being delivered to meet the changing needs of the patient with notification to the RN or provider for concurrence. Assesses, records, and reports vital signs, neurological signs, weight, and blood glucose levels.

Appropriately triages and prioritizes patient needs as routine, urgent, or emergent in the clinical setting and modifies patient care/treatment as needed. Completes all required documents in a timely manner in accordance with VA policy and TJC standards of care. Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills. Prepares, administers, and documents medications and immunizations as directed without error that may cause harm to patients.

Demonstrates practical and theoretical knowledge about medication side effects, purposes, therapeutic dosages range, and toxic effects with skill sufficient to administer a wide range of medications. Ensure safe staffing levels, and maintain compliance with established care standards. Other duties as assigned.

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not Authorized Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
