Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Key Responsibilities

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The VA San Francisco Health Care system is currently recruiting a Psychologist-Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Program for the Mental Health service in the Oakland locations.

Major duties include, but are not limited to: Provides specialized psychological services at all levels of complexity for patients with PTSD, with service delivery to include intake evaluation, diagnostic assessments, psychotherapy and patient education. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including individual therapy, group therapy, and psycho-education classes.

Best practices, practice guidelines and evidence-based treatment protocols (such as CPT and PE) are utilized to the extent feasible in all therapeutic interventions. Incumbent will provide services to the assigned site, as well as providing services to other NCHCS sites via telemental health. Consults with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues to include patient's decision making capacity regarding health care.

Develops person-centered, culturally sensitive treatment plans to address mental health needs of patients. Conducts evaluations to aid in the differential diagnosis of complex cases. Completes all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate.Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Chief of Service, Chief of Staff and Director (or duly appointed designees).

The work is primarily sedentary, although the stress involved in dealing continually with persons in emotional distress and who may be uncooperative and occasionally violent makes this work notably more demanding than most sedentary jobs.

Staff psychologists at this level diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities, provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders, and may conduct research. They may be assigned to any program area.

Psychologists who are not licensed must practice under the close supervision of a licensed psychologist. Staff Psychologist, GS-12 (Developmental Level): (c) Assignment. Staff psychologists at this level diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities, provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders, and may conduct research. They may be assigned to any program area.

Staff Psychologist, GS-13 (Full Performance Level): (c) Assignment. This is the full performance level for staff psychologists. At this level, psychologists are licensed to practice independently in the provision of psychological services, consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate.

They may be assigned to any VHA program and setting, such as inpatient or outpatient medicine, primary care, surgery, mental health, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, geriatrics, Compensation and Pension, Vet Centers, and the VHA National Center for Organization Development.

Psychologists diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities, and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders. Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies and other interventions such as behavioral health and community interventions. Psychologists consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.

Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation, teaching, training, and research activities.
