Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent serves as the embedded behavioral health provider, offering brief assessment, evidence-based intervention, clinical consultation, care coordination, and population-based care while collaborating closely with Primary Care Providers to ensure early identification and, Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP), Mental Health Treatment Coordinator-Care Coordinated Management (MHTC-CCM), and Specialty Mental Health Services for appropriate referral management of mental health needs.

Responsibilities include longitudinal follow-up and decision support for designated conditions, delivered primarily through warm hand-offs and in-person encounters, with additional use of clinical technologies as needed.

The role requires strong interpersonal and critical-thinking skills, knowledge of evidence-based treatments for common psychiatric conditions, proficiency in psychosocial assessment, and competency with VA electronic systems, while adhering to staffing models and operational guidance to ensure effective delivery of CCC and CoCM services. Ability to use a wide variety of individual, group, or familial counseling interventions.

Demonstrates sensitivity to diversity and possesses multicultural counseling skills. Ability to fully utilize the current DSM in providing consultation with PACT Primary Care Provider on diagnoses and formulation of treatment goals and application of appropriate clinical intervention using professional counseling practices. And the ability to develop and deliver psycho-education groups that include life skills, family support, and community integration.
