Job Summary

This position is located at Aquatics, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL. The purpose of this position is to provide lifeguard duties in a variety of situations and will be responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons at the assigned work area throughout the MWR Department. Tasks may also include a variety of duties in support of MWR such as community events.

Major Duties

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: 1. Recreation Aide (NF-1) Responsible as a swimming pool lifeguard to perform rescue work, promptly renders CPR or emergency first aid, and calls for medical assistance as necessary. Supervises swimmers for safety and crowd control. Enforces safety and pool regulations. Promptly reports safety hazards to supervisor. Completes incident reports and assists in maintaining routine documents and reports. Responsible for the cleanliness of the buildings and grounds at the pool areas. Responsible for vacuuming, skimming, and routine pool maintenance. May operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. May apply disinfectant to showers, floors, and decks. May check I.D. cards for authorized patrons and collect usage fees, if applicable. Performs other related duties as assigned. 2. Recreation Assistant (NF-2) Responsible for the safety of swimmers in the pool. Remain alert and continuously observe swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Enforce swimming pool rules and regulations, assist swimmers having difficulty and rescue those in trouble. Perform rescue work and when necessary, render first aid until such time as qualified doctor or other emergency personnel are present. In case of a serious accident will call for an ambulance. Prepare complete accident report. Alert supervisor of unusual circumstances. Perform any necessary housekeeping tasks to ensure proper standards of cleanliness, sanitation and appearance of pool and related facilities (vacuuming pool, cleaning deck, etc.) Inspect pool and surrounding area ensuring cleanliness and safety at all times. Check chlorine and PH levels on a scheduled basis. Immediately communicate problems or concerns of the aquatic environment to the aquatics manager. Determine patron eligibility and provides quality customer service to patrons. Answer questions and provides program information to patrons. May assist with scheduled pool parties after hours of operation or with a base wide special event. Maintain daily logs and records. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

** Applicants can qualify based on education OR experience OR a combination of both. If qualifying based on education, applicants must submit transcripts showing degree awards and course work. ** Recreation Aide (NF-1) No Minimum Experience/Education Requirements American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or a higher-level equivalent certificate Basic First Aid and CPR Certification Recreation Assistant (NF-2) 6 months or more of general experience AND 6 months or more of specialized experience OR Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in courses related to recreation (e.g., basic psychology, group dynamics, physical education, arts and crafts, etc.). OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or a higher-level equivalent certificate Basic First Aid and CPR Certification At least six (6) months Lifeguard experience
