Job Summary

This position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the Acute Care Inpatient Nursing Division on 7C. The function of the Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) is to provide, direct, and supervise the delivery of quality nursing care toa veteran population of varying complexity.

Key Responsibilities

The Acute Care Inpatient Nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. They assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

They administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines and influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs.

Some of the duties are, but not limited to: Assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultations. Demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement.

Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team.

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), located at 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326.

The ACEN accredits all levels of nursing programs, including clinical doctorate, masters/post master's certificate, baccalaureate, associate and diploma nursing education programs. (Note: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission/NLNAC changed its name to ACEN in May 2013.

ACEN's website may be utilized to verify accredited programs using automated inquiry processes; however, for verification of any nursing program's accreditation prior to 1998, an automated inquiry cannot be used and ACEN must be contacted directly via their email contact information on the ACEN website to verify.) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), located at 655 K Street, NW, Suite 7, Washington, DC 20001.

The CCNE is an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and accredits nursing education programs at the bachelor and master's level.
