This position is located at the Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the Acute Nursing Division - Inpatient on 6CS. The function of the Progressive Care registered nurse (RN) is to provide, direct, and supervise the delivery of quality nursing care to a veteran population of varying complexity in the Acute Nursing Care Division.
The Progressive Care RN provides an increased level of nursing care that bridges the gap between the intensive care unit and medical-surgical units.
Provide direct care for acutely ill patients who are moderately stable with an elevated risk for instability. Provide high intensity care and vigilance. Foster a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contribute professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Provide care appropriate to the biopsychosocial needs of the population served.
This knowledge includes an understanding of the changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population. Practice requirements include Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). All RNs will be trained in ACLS certification within one year of practice on the unit.
