The Chief Nurse (CN) for Geriatrics Extended Care and Community Living Center executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and /or discipline lines, influence organizational mission and health care, and responsibility for outcomes. The Chief Nurse is responsible for administrative functions of their assigned nursing units/programs.
The Nurse IV Chief GEC/CLC functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor who possesses a wide range of experience and leadership ability. The Chief Nurse GEC/CLC provides senior leadership and oversight for daily clinical and administrative operations within nursing as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS). Responsible for ensuring the delivery of nursing care to Veteran patients and managing nursing personnel within GEC programs to include the Community Living Center (CLC). Collaborates with and provides leadership in the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive rehabilitation and CLC programs. Responsible for efficient and effective management of resources within GEC. Responsible for assessing and recommending the allocations of human and material resources, in determining staffing levels, managing overtime, and recruitment and retention of nursing staff. The Chief Nurse GEC/CLC supports the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. The Chief Nurse GEC/CLC collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network.
