Job Summary

The Nurse IV, Chief Nurse, Primary Care Nursing, at San Francisco VA Health Care System executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross services and/or discipline lines, and influence the organizational healthcare mission.

Key Responsibilities

The Nurse IV, Chief Nurse, Primary Care Nursing, functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor who possesses a wide range of experience and leadership ability. Duties for the position may include but are not limited to: Provides senior leadership and oversight for daily clinical and administrative operations within nursing as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive (ADPCS/NE).

Supports the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network. Contributes ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing.

Assumes accountability for administrative functions for these areas and is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, directing, and evaluating the overall program and functions therein including staffing and budget accountability. Responsible for all processes, performance measures and other metrics that support Quality Care and Access. Supports and facilitates outreach that provides access to exemplary care that is fully integrated across the continuum.

Develops and maintains effective relationships with all levels of internal and external customers by interacting and relating effectively. Collaborates with Chief of SPS to address issues related to instrumentation and other RMD-related matters in their areas. Serves as Acting ADPCS/NE or Deputy ADPCS/NE as needed.
