Job Summary

This Registered Nurse (Community Care Nurse Manager) position is in Community Care services at the VA Central Western Massachusetts, located at Leeds, MA . This position is a permanent, full-time at 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

The Community Care Nurse Manager is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other Nurse Managers as needed. The Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.

They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. Functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.

Duties include but not limited to: Plans work to be accomplished by team, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to team based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of team. Evaluates the performance of staff. Makes recommendations for appointments, advancements, or reassignments of staff.

Gives advice, counsels, or instructs personnel on work and administrative matters. Hears and resolves complaints of staff and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors. Recommends and/or takes disciplinary action where appropriate. Facilitates the procurement of essential equipment and supplies in collaboration with Leadership.

Facilitates professional development of clinically competent staff through training and education in care coordination, patient advocacy, therapeutic engagement, ethical conduct, and patient self-determination. Monitors performance and ensures clinical staff have the appropriate tools and resources to meet performance measures.

Implements staff retention strategies such as awards, and recognition, advocating for supply and equipment needs, team building, responding to suggestions and feedback, assuring and upholding accountability of staff, and publicly demonstrating support for staff. Develops and implements long and short-range strategic goals in conjunction with leadership, forecast future needs and identify areas for further development and/or improvement of services.
