The Nurse Manager in the Community Living Center demonstrates specialized knowledge and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. The Nurse Manager assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
Duties may include but are not limited to: Designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational and staff levels. Equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes an environment of accountability for high-quality cost effective outcomes.
Contributes to development of care delivery models and environmental design while ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. Promotes alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Provides and directs others in Veteran/patient driven care by optimizing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients. Communicates and collaborates as an effective member of the interprofessional team demonstrating leadership responsibilities such as team leader/charge nurse.
Shares knowledge and learning opportunities that enhance current nursing practice and self-evaluation for self and others on the team. Applies evidence-based practice/research, considering patient preferences, to improve quality of care and resource utilization, participating in established improvement activities.
