Job Summary

The Perioperative Clinic Coordinator is the Cardiothoracic Outpatient Surgical Nurse Coordinator. The The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates care based on specific surgical components. The RN provides comprehensive, professional, and personalized preparation of patients prior to surgical and/or medical procedures, to include patients scheduled to receive sedation and anesthesia care in the surgical setting.

Duties of the position are, but not limited to: Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate care based on specific surgical components.

Provide comprehensive, professional, and personalized preparation of patients prior to surgical and/or medical procedures, to include sedation and anesthesia preparation. Coordinate of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Follow procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influence care outcomes by collaboration with members of the interdisciplinary team.

Knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs. Collaborate in the daily operations of the clinic, provide patient care and support clinical functions as needed to ensure effective, efficient delivery of healthcare services. Provide competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients.

Responsive to patient and provider requests, and ensure customer satisfaction which reflects an understanding of surgical procedures. Facilitate appropriate patient assessments.

Coordinate anesthesia evaluations, validation of testing as ordered by the surgeon and adjunct providers, transportation assistance, lodging arrangements, identify potential roadblocks to scheduling, and alert the surgeon and operative staff, assist patients in discharge care and planning, and patient and family education.

Patient and family education is focused on overall plan of care, preoperative instructions for transport to and from the procedure, and specific individualized physical preparation needed prior to surgery. Act as the patient advocate, and answer patient inquiries and resolve patient concerns. Collaborate with specialty clinic coordinators, Operating Room (OR) staff, anesthesia providers, and adjunct providers as needed to ensure complete preparation for the surgical patient.

Maintain metrics related to clinic performance goals and objectives. Participate in continuous quality improvement projects. Makes Veteran care a priority, demonstrate customer service principles. Practice within guidelines of polices, standard operating procedures (SOP), and standards of care relative to the continuity of care. Other duties as assigned.
