Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

This position qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which is a student loan repayment reimbursement initiative. To participate in EDRP, candidates must satisfy specific eligibility requirements outlined in VHA policy. Additionally, applicants are required to submit their EDRP application within four months of their appointment date. A Recruitment Incentive is available for this position and is approved for applicants who are deemed highly qualified.

The Community Living Center (CLC) Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to Veterans with complex and diverse healthcare needs. The RN is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.

The nurse coordinates care across the continuum, promotes patient education and self-management, and collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve optimal resident outcomes. The CLC RN demonstrates professional nursing practice appropriate to the level of assignment and contributes to a safe, supportive environment that promotes quality care, professional development, and continuous improvement.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides competent, evidence-based nursing care to residents of the Community Living Center. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care based on resident needs and age-specific considerations. Coordinates resident care and promotes education, self-management, and continuity of care.

Administers medications and performs treatments and procedures in accordance with established policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines. Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to improve resident outcomes. Provides direction and oversight to licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants, as appropriate to the assignment.

Participates in nursing education, orientation, competency development, and quality improvement activities. Applies evidence-based clinical practices and participates in activities designed to sustain and improve evidence-based care. Promotes a safe and supportive environment for residents, staff, and other healthcare professionals. Shares clinical knowledge, educational findings, experiences, and best practices with peers and other members of the healthcare team.

Participates in interdisciplinary discussions and contributes a professional nursing perspective to resident care planning and decision-making. Evaluates resident outcomes and contributes to practice changes and improvements at the unit, program, or service level, as appropriate to the level of assignment. Collaborates with the Minimum Data Set (MDS) Coordinator to support accurate documentation and Resource Utilization Group (RUG) scoring.

Demonstrates leadership and contributes to the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines, as appropriate to the level of assignment. Performs other duties as assigned.
