Job Summary

The Float Assistant Nurse Manager will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care based on age-specific components and assuming responsibility for the coordination of care focused on the transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities

The Float Assistant Nurse Manager for Critical Care, uses professional standards of care and practice to evaluate self, programs, and service activities. Maintaining knowledge of current techniques, trends, and professional issues while using group process to identify, analyze, and resolve care problems. Duties of the position include but not limited to the following: Assist with coordination of training and education for all nursing staff positions.

Knowledge of facility policies / procedures and ability to teach and enforce. May serve on the Nursing Service Policy and Procedure committee. Collaborate with employees and Nurse Manager in the evaluation process of employees. Prepare time schedules and submit to Nurse Manager for review and approval. Collect data for quarterly reports on process improvement activity and program evaluations (i.e.

wound care, infection control, patient complaints, medication errors, equipment location, etc.). Ensure that medical records are maintained, current, and complete by monitoring the Nursing Service documentation to verify the entries are descriptive of care rendered and all physician orders have been properly carried out. Plan, coordinate, and utilize available staff to accomplish patient care workload.

Routinely attend all preschedule meetings in the absence of the unit Nurse Manager. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and take patient assignments at least 50% of the time to meet operational needs of the unit. Preferred Experience: While not a requirement for consideration or selection, applicants with the following preferred education/experience will be considered highly qualified, such experience must be clearly identifiable in the application documents.

Master's degree in Nursing. Minimum 5 years of Step-Down Unit experience. Minimum 3 years of RN leadership or Charge Nurse experience. CCRN and/or PCCN Certification.

Will require working every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Required to be in staffing 50% of the shifts. Flexibility in hours is required to meet with staff on off tours. Work Schedule Statement: May be required to work other shifts, be on call, work weekends and/or holidays as patient care and needs of the service require.

Should operationally needs dictate, candidates must be willing to work within other units (including community-based outpatient clinics, for example) to assist and support continuation of the provision of care/services. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized.

Requirements & Education

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) must be fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

If your school was accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of graduation, but is no longer listed on the websites, you must provide documentation of accreditation with your application packet. Note: Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
