Job Summary
This position is located at the Wilmington VAMC in Impact Clinic.
Key Responsibilities
Impact Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients. The impact nurse is responsive to patient and provider requests and ensures customer satisfaction which reflects an understanding of surgical procedures. They are an integral part of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate appropriate patient assessments preoperatively.
This includes coordination of anesthesia evaluations, validation of testing as ordered by the surgeon and adjunct providers, transportation assistance, lodging arrangements, identifying potential roadblocks to scheduling patients for procedures and alerting the surgeon and operative staff, assisting patients in planning for discharge care, and patient and family education.
Patient and family education is focused on overall plan of care, preoperative instructions for transport to and from the procedure and specific individualized physical preparation needed prior to surgery. RN works with the providers to facilitate admissions for medical and surgical procedures through the OR.
Works closely with anesthesia completing RN assessments for most MAC and local procedures, obtaining surgical clearance, implantable device and interrogation information and special anesthesia requirements. Provides education for all surgical procedures. Work Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm
