Job Summary

The Informatics Registered Nurse (RN) demonstrates leadership in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating hardware and software solutions integrated with the electronic health record (EHR) and related applications. This RN contributes to the delivery of education, orientation, and competency development, as well as providing consultation on quality improvement initiatives and outcomes utilization.

Major Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Demonstrates proficiency in content management, application support, system optimization, data management, business and partnership management, and change management. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, including program and service leaders, to support informatics initiatives. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with VA staff at all levels nationwide. Implements and supports patient safety policies and systems in alignment with National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS) guidelines. Develops, maintains, and operates patient safety processes at the facility, including participation in Root Cause Analyses. Applies healthcare management principles in supporting and directing healthcare delivery systems. Performs duties that contribute to the administrative management of healthcare delivery systems. Applies advanced clinical knowledge to guide staff in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes beyond the immediate setting. Develops recommendations and strategies to resolve complex issues, providing leadership and direction for stakeholders. Utilizes best practice evidence and research findings to inform nursing informatics practice decisions at the unit, team, or workgroup level.
