Job Summary

This Registered Nurse (Informaticist) is located in the Education service at the Manchester VA location. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

The major duties and responsibilities of a Registered Nurse (Informaticist) include but are not limited to: Demonstrates the following core informatics functions to include content management, application support, health information technology system optimization, enterprise data management, business architecture management, partnership management, requirements management, and change management.

Supports and optimizes key clinical applications such as Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA), Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), Emergency Department Information System (EDIS), Bed Management Solution (BMS), Anesthesia Record Keeper (ARK), BioPoint PI, Imed Consent, Vocera, Alaris Pump, Pyramid Analytics and other Health Information Technology (HIT) tools.

Provides hands-on education for new and existing staff on CPRS, BCMA, and additional clinical applications; offers in person, hands on support during new technology adoption. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network to communicate HIT changes and resolve system issues.

Conducts workflow analysis and contributes to system development life cycle activities for Electronic Health Record (EHR) and related HIT systems. Designs and retrieves data reports using Structured Query Language (SQL), Pyramid Analytics, PowerBI and Fileman/VistA to support leadership and clinical decision-making. Evaluates new HIT tools (including AI applications) and guides end-users in safe and effective use.

Leads and/or supports the use of clinical guidelines, into practice, information system and informatics solutions, and knowledge bases. Initiates or supports interdisciplinary teams to improve clinical practice using evidence-based informatics approaches. Incorporates new knowledge and strategies to initiate change in clinical health informatics and nursing practices if desired outcomes are not achieved.

Provides leadership at the program /service, VISN or national level to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with key partners and stakeholders that impact informatics from the central office level, through the facility level. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted).

In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.
