Job Summary

The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with the Nurse Manager on orientation, training, staff development, performance evaluation, staffing, workflow, and quality initiatives for the Infusion department, which includes two clinics and oncology nurse navigators in Aurora, CO and Colorado Springs, CO. This working manager role requires travel to the Colorado Springs clinic at least once weekly and dedicates up to 50% of time to direct patient care.

https://youtu.be/EGW4PMZvJto?si=_f7pNchVqoK1KZal Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Serve as the first line supervisor of nursing personnel in the patient care area ensuring the head nurse/NM retains VA Handbook 5007 requirements (examples may include but are not limited to supervising the nursing assistants and/or licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/LVNs) in patient care area or supervising the nursing personnel on evening and/or night shift).

Approve schedules and leave for employees under their direct supervision. Appraise performance, recommend performance standards, and recommend performance awards for employees under their direct supervision. Serve as hiring official during the recruitment process for employees under their direct supervision. Recommend proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision.

Responsible for assisting the NM with personnel on the unit who they do not directly supervise. Draft schedules and leave for final approval by the NM. Provide input into the performance of employees with the final evaluation completed by the NM. Assist with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment.

Apply clinical knowledge/judgement to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; provide feedback to the NM who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice.

Oversee work assignments and provide reports of contact or assist with fact findings as needed to provide the NM with the information necessary to make recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions. Engage in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. Adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, foster accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.

Equip staff with tools for competent care and promote an environment accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. Promote alliance across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
