Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Wichita, Kansas is currently recruiting for a Registered Nurse in their Acute Care ICU ICU Nurses need to be responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age specific components.

Duties include but not limited to: Provide care that compensates for or assists in meeting the health-related self-care deficits of the Veteran patient. The care provided will result in: a) meeting of existent/emerging self-care demands, and/or b) enhancing or developing self-care. Identify and address continuing care needs Formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments.

The department is a fast-paced area that provides care for patients with multiple, complex co-morbidities, both surgical and medical. Each area requires excellent assessment skills and critical thinking ability. Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions of patients and communicate effectively with other healthcare providers.

The staff nurse interprets the philosophy and goals of Nursing to others in the work setting; functions within established guidelines and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and develop therapeutic relationships with patients, their families and other professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care.
