This Special Procedures, Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-procedural care for Veterans undergoing diagnostic and invasive radiologic & cardiac procedures. The IR RN is responsible for moderate sedation administration & monitoring, high-acuity patient management, and coordination of care with physicians, technologists, & interdisciplinary team members.
The IR RN role requires strong procedural knowledge, clinical judgment, and a commitment to Veteran-centered care. Major duties include but are not limited to: Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Perform pre-procedural assessments, including screening for abnormal findings and identifying contraindications.
Provide intra-procedural nursing care, including maintaining sterile technique, rhythm identification, hemodynamic monitoring, and administration and monitoring of moderate sedation in accordance with VA policy. Complete post-procedural assessments, ensuring safe recovery, documentation, and appropriate Veteran education. Maintain closed-loop communication with physicians, technologists, anesthesia personnel, and all members of the care team.
Manage high-acuity patient care during diagnostic and invasive procedures. Educate Veterans and families regarding procedures, recovery expectations, and follow-up plans. Demonstrate adaptability, professionalism, excellent judgment, and a positive attitude while working in a fast-paced, high-volume procedural environment.
