This Interventional Radiology RN position is located at the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC Indianapolis, IN, within the Nursing, PCS Surgery Service. The IR RN provides comprehensive direct and indirect patient care during invasive procedures by performing circulating, recording, and monitoring duties including hemodynamic assessment, moderate sedation monitoring, and medication administration.
Rotating call schedule is required, and candidates must reside within one hour of the main campus.
Demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice while providing care to clients. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.
The IR RN is responsible for direct patient care, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect nursing care and identifying outcomes for patient undergoing invasive procedures in IR. They are responsible for coordinating patient care delivery to ensure the delivery of quality care per the established standards of practice, policy, and procedure.
Provides patient education to assist the patient and/or family in understanding all phases of the invasive procedure process. Maintains knowledge of supplies and equipment used for various cases in the invasive procedures area. Performs the duties of recording, circulating, and monitoring patients in all phases of the invasive procedure. The IR RN performs hemodynamic and moderate sedation monitoring, medication administration, and provides pre-and post-care to patients undergoing invasive procedures. The IR RN provides peers with formal or informal constructive feedback for improvement.
Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of health care professionals. Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Responsible for the documented IR outcomes at the program or service level.
Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility. This nurse has vast experience and knowledge with the situations in which they are ultimately expected to perform, skillfully integrating theoretical concepts, strong critical thinking skills, and exhibits an expert technically skilled practice. May be required to take call.
Preferred Experience A minimum of 2 years of Nursing experience in critical care, interventional radiology, catheterization laboratory and or Post-anesthesia care unit intensive care.

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) must be fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
