Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) Community Living Center (CLC) provides evidence-based care to residents while supervising licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants. The role supports nursing education, staff orientation, competency development, and quality-improvement initiatives. The RN demonstrates leadership in promoting holistic, collaborative care and contributes to interdisciplinary teamwork to strengthen outcomes within the CLC.

Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age specific components. Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.

Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care. As the Kerrville Community Living Center (CLC) Registered Nurse (RN) you are responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determine the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care.

The focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction. Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments. Seek guidance in how to improve care provided to residents and families. You will bring principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills. Seek documentation guidance from the Minimum Data Set (MDS) Coordinator to ensure accuracy of the Resource Utilization Group (RUG) score.

Requirements & Education

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) must be fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
