Robert J Dole VA Medical Center is recruiting for a highly qualified RN to fill the Nurse Manager position for the Intensive Care Unit in Wichita
The Nurse Manger is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible for the management, direction, and delivery of quality care to one or more complex patient care areas. They demonstrates leadership in improving patient care by effective use of allocated resources, forecasting needs, providing education and guidance to staff, and by monitoring and evaluating the care provided by staff.
They assures that the delivery of care is in accordance with established standards, hospital policies and procedures and is consistent with the plane of other health care providers. They maintains administrative and managerial oversight for staff on off tours, weekends and holidays modeling the interdisciplinary team approach to patient care on the 24/7 Units. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Step-Down Unit (SDU) consist of an 8 bed ICU and 4 bed SDU.
The unit is open 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. The Nurse Manager in ICU/SDU is expected to be proficient in all areas of caring for critically ill patients. The department is a fast-paced area that provides care for patients with multiple, complex co-morbidities, both surgical and medical. Each area requires excellent assessment skills and critical thinking ability.
Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions of patients and communicate effectively with other healthcare providers and leadership. The Nurse Manager interprets the philosophy and goals of Nursing to others in the work setting; functions within established guidelines and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and develop therapeutic relationships with patients, their families and other professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care.
The Nurse Manager is also responsible and accountable for demonstrating the educational, experiential, and knowledge/practice-based competency requirements outlined in the four (4) dimensions: Practice Scientific Inquiry Professional Development Collaboration In addition, the Nurse Manager is accountable and responsible for possessing the knowledge and skill to: Communicate and interact appropriately with all internal and external customers.
Maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information. Demonstrate managerial practices that include effective Labor/Management Partnership and leadership skills.
