Job Summary

The Nursing Excellence Coordinator serves as a key leader in advancing a culture of nursing excellence across the organization. This role supports system-wide initiatives aligned with the ANCC Pathway to Excellence® and Magnet Recognition Program®, guiding professional governance, evidence-based practice, and performance improvement efforts.

Key Responsibilities

The Coordinator collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to strengthen professional practice environments, enhance patient care outcomes, and ensure alignment with organizational mission and strategic priorities. Responsibilities include coordinating program activities, leading data-driven improvement work, supporting staff engagement, and promoting innovation, lifelong learning, and high-reliability principles throughout all nursing service areas.

The role requires strong leadership, analytical capability, project management skills, and the ability to foster alignment, mentorship, and collaboration across the facility and Veterans Integrated Service Network. Duties listed but not limited to: Serves as the subject-matter expert for ANCC Pathway to Excellence® and Magnet Recognition Program® standards.

Coordinate application, designation, and re-designation processes, including document preparation, readiness assessments, timelines, and gap analyses. Advise and support Shared Governance councils.Promote structures that strengthen nursing engagement, autonomy, and decision-making. Act as an expert consultant for EBP, inquiry projects, and best-practice implementation.

Guide performance improvement initiatives related to safety, reliability, patient experience, and outcomes Develop and maintain data-management systems supporting PTE/Magnet readiness. Analyze trends, prepare progress reports, and support long-term strategic planning. Collaborate with interdisciplinary leadership to ensure nursing excellence aligns with facility and VISN priorities. Participate in service-level, facility, and national strategic-planning activities.

Create and support environments that promote nurse well-being, growth, and high-quality patient care Assess outcomes of EBP changes, professional-practice initiatives, and clinical-environment improvements Provide recommendations that influence policies and operations across nursing departments Support nursing administration leadership (including ADPCS) in evaluating and improving the nursing practice milieu Perform other duties as assigned in support of nursing excellence.
