Job Summary

The Oncology/Chemotherapy Registered Nurse is responsible/accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. They assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. They administer medications and procedures per established policies, guidelines.

They influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.

https://youtu.be/LM35k1p_3Tc?si=OYdVLJgrv6Jbwh7l Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Administer a variety of medications/therapies including chemotherapy. Maintain competency on PPE use/ donning and doffing. Identify potential emergency/crisis situations and provide appropriate interventions. Complete necessary procedures, preparations or recoveries based on physician consults and orders.

Demonstrate leadership in the education of the patient, family/significant other and the health care team members. Document coordination and care provided in CPRS and other appropriate resources, in a timely and accurate manner. Provide culturally competent and gender specific care.

Function as an integral part of the service team, working in collaboration with the nurses, physicians/providers, social workers and other health care professionals to enhance the overall care of the patient. Identify potential emergency/crisis situations and provides appropriate interventions.

Participate in scheduling patients for outpatient clinic appointments, procedures and necessary testing as applicable and as directed by service protocols and medical center policies and procedures. Assist with completing clinic intake, maintaining clinic flow for various clinics within Specialty Care (i.e. Pain/Palliative Care, Hematology/Oncology, etc.) and administering treatments for assigned group of patients.

Assist in team research and updating service related policies and protocols. Seek out and participates on committees and task forces as needed/appropriate.
