The Perioperative Registered Nurse performs as the circulator and scrub nurse in accordance with Medical Center policies and the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses Standards and recommended practices, They provide patient care by assessing, planning, and implementing the nursing care patients receive during their perioperative experience.

Pre and post operative patient education Reprocessing and management for reusable medical equipment. Monitoring the patients physical and emotional well-being, and integrating and coordinating patient care throughout the surgical care continuum. Patient and family teaching.
Patient advocacy. Management of the whole patient during their perioperative procedure including but not limited to positioning, prepping and draping the patient for their scheduled procedure. Correctly identifies patient using the organization's two patient identifiers and the completion of the time-out prior to the procedure in accordance with hospital policy.
Identifies and communicates with the operating room interprofessional team regarding the patient's condition and any changes that may occur to assure the optimal outcome for the patient. Formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments.
Provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider.
Utilizes core elements of performance including knowledge and active participation in unit level quality improvement processes, such as the customer service program. Promotes the medical center mission, vision and values; partnerships, customer service standards and Veterans Affairs policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned by the Service Line, Facility, Department, and/or Agency.
