Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards The Registered Nurse (Outpatient Staff) position is within the Surgical service at the Providence VA Healthcare system, located in Providence, Rhode Island. It is permanent and full time at 40 hours per week.

The Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based specialty care to assigned patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the clinic setting. This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.

The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. Duties include, but not limited to: Manages the care of patients, while organizing and prioritizing patient care needs, and ensuring assigned tasks are completed. Functions as an emerging leader in providing direction to staff to identify, implement and evaluate patient care needs.

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the plan of care is achieved. Leads the provision of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice. Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes within the immediate practice setting.

Functions as a leader, with demonstrated outcomes, for the immediate practice setting. Establishes a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to attain, maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment. Engages patients, families, and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination.

Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Mon-Fri; 8:00a-4:30p.

In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.
