Job Summary

The Pain Management Registered Nurse (RN) identifies gaps in knowledge or care delivery within the pain management team and initiatives interprofessional education and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes. They are responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.

The Boise VA Healthcare System provides health care services at 6 locations in Idaho and eastern Oregon. Facilities include our Boise VA Medical Center and 5 community-based outpatient clinics in Caldwell, Mountain Home, Salmon, and Twin Falls, Idaho, and Hines, Oregon.

The Pain Management Registered Nurse (RN) identifies gaps in knowledge or care delivery within the pain management team and initiatives interprofessional education and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes. Duties include, but not limited to: Develops audits and/or research activities to improve evidence-based standards of care.

Advocates for a Whole Health model of care and treatment of patients with pain and provides leadership to clinical support staff in advocating for patients' care and rights beyond immediate care needs. Contributes to facility-wide quality improvement and mentorship activities.

Provides education to nurses and other healthcare professionals on pain theory and nursing care of patients with acute and persistent pain outside of the inpatient setting locally, regionally, and nationally. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level.

Program is defined as a substantial coordinated group of activities impacting patients and/or employees. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
